Use of food additives

Substances which control micro-organisms and chemical spoilage are added to food 

The added substances inactivates or kill micro-organisms, retard chemical spoilage, but are considered relatively safe to humans 

Examples: Fruit juices contain benzoates and sulphites, wine contains SO2, oils contain BHA/BHT
